UUrsla, affectionately know as Ursie to her foster family is an approx. 1 yr. spayed female. She weighs in at about 52 lbs. She has been in foster care for several months now and recently it was determined (after a very thorough examination at the University of Wisconsin Veterinary School) that Ursie is a “special needs” dog. To look at her and see this joyful young dog as she runs around the backyard playing with a jolly ball (see video on BelgianRescue channel on You Tube) one would never know that she has “no conscious proprioception.” This means that she has a neurological deficit that in affects primarily her rear limbs. Originally she was thought to have severe hip dysplasia but the U. of W. reports that while she shows the beginnings of osteoarthritis she does not have severe dysplasia. It is unknown why Ursie has “no conscious proprioception.” What this means for Ursie is that she still needs a loving home where she can share all the love and joy that she has inside her. She needs a home where she will be walked often to help keep her well muscled and slim and trim. She can’t be a Frisbee or agility dog or do advance obedience though she would dearly love to…she can jump just fine but the landing requires more coordination than she might ever have. While she gets along with other dogs, care should be taken so that she does not injure herself while playing “rough” with them. Ursie is a beautiful and loving dog who is just waiting for that special forever home.
